«Выесть сердце». Бояться или волноваться, томиться, изнывать, предаваться скорби или ревновать. Это выражение также часто используется как ироничная насмешка над человеком, достигшим каких-либо результатов, продвинувшимся в каком-либо направлении. Так, кто-либо, напечатавший первый короткий рассказик, может в шутку сравнить себя с уже известным автором:

'Eat your heart out, Agatha Christie!' — «Позеленей от злости, Агата Кристи!».
